WORKFACT WEDNESDAY: Water is Your Best Employee!

We all know that we should drink more water, but did you know that just a 2% drop in hydration levels can lead to difficulty focusing on the computer screen, short term memory problems and difficulty completing basic tasks? Hiring that water cooler could be the best move your workplace makes – and, you’ll have someplace around which to gossip!

Here are five ways to work more water into your workday (from WaterLogic):

1. Ewaterngage a natural fruit to make a tasty fruit infusion

If you find water bland and tasteless, jazz up your replenishing experience by infusing your water with orange slices, watermelon chunks, lemons, kiwis, or raspberries. You can even freeze the fruit and use it instead of ice cubes for cooler water. If you miss the fizz or carbonation from sodas, try a club soda or sparkling water.

2. Recruit a water drinking app

There are tons of apps available to help you solve your hydration woes and keep track of how many glasses or ounces of water you consume. You can also get a tech-savvy smart water bottle that connects with your phone to log sips and reminds you how much you have left for the day. There is no better mental trigger than a loud jingle or notification alert to get you back on your hydration track.

3. Hire a durable, reusable water bottle that you can refill

Pushing yourself to hydrate more often may come down to purchasing a pretty new reusable water bottle. Just like a brand spanking new outfit or new shoes can motivate you when you start your day, a trendy water bottle can motivate you to regularly refilling throughout the day.

4. Work to eat more water-rich foods like fruits and vegetables

There are many of fruits and vegetables that contain a fair amount of water. Sneak water-rich fruits and veggies like lettuce, cucumbers, strawberries, watermelon, apricots, zucchini, cherries, spinach, broccoli, and tomatoes into our diet to stay hydrated. However, even though fruits and vegetables are a great source of water, they won’t give you your required daily water intake. Therefore we still recommend that you drink water throughout the day.

5. Employ a bottleless water cooler

Carrying around water in a bottles every day is not only a pain but plastic bottles are also bad for the environment. If your workplace has a bottleless water cooler installed, you’ll be able to access a limitless supply of purified and chilled water each and every day. And as a bottleless system is directly fitted to your building’s water supply you’ll never have the hassle of carrying around your water all day.
